Travel Plans in Kagawa

Kagawa Prefecture can be found nestled to the East of Ehime Prefecture in Shikoku. It also shares borders with Tokushima Prefecture and the Seto Inland Sea. If you head down to the Southern end of the Prefecture, then you will find the Sanuki Mountains running right along the border. Right now, Kagawa Prefecture is the smallest Prefecture in the whole of Japan.

The region is famous for numerous different dishes, and it was the first place to cultivate olives in the country around the beginning of the 20th century. Throughout the Prefecture, you can find more than 700 different udon restaurants, all of which serve the famous Sanuki Udon dish. The noodles are characterised by their square-like shape. It is also the home to hone-tsuki-dori, which is a type of seasoned chicken that can be found in izakayas across Japan.

Ritsurin Koen is one of the most famous Japanese-style landscape gardens in the whole of Japan, and it can be found in Takamatsu City. It was originally built by feudal lords during the Edo period, and it stands as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Prefecture. It has its own shops, a folk museum, and a traditional teahouse.

You can find one of the three most beautiful gorges of Japan in Kagawa Prefecture, so the Kankakei Gorge Ropeway is a popular destination for tourists. The majority of people will travel to the region during the later stages of autumn when the colours of the trees make them look as though they are on fire. At the upper station of the ropeway, you can find a souvenir shop, a restaurant, and even an observation deck where you can see the entire view surrounding the area of the gorge.

Art enthusiasts will find their place in Kagawa Prefecture on the Island of Naoshima. There are a number of different contemporary art museums on the island, but most tourists are drawn to the Chichu Art Museum. The name literally means, ‘in the earth’. Within the walls of the museum, you can find a number of different pieces of artwork by successful artists, including Claude Monet, and Walter De Maria.
